St. Cloud Technical High School holds a special spot in the hearts of many its alumni.
And Tech High School Principal Charlie Eisenreich is no exception.
A Tech graduate himself, Eisenreich is starting his second year as principal of the school after spending nearly nine years as principal of St. Cloud Apollo High School. Before that, he was an assistant principal at Tech for more than eight years.
"Many of our graduates still feel that very strong connection (to Tech)," he said. "Being a die-hard Tech fan, I love the place and the concept of Tech High School."
Eisenreich said for nearly 100 years, Tech's legacy has been as an institution that has brought forth high-achieving students and top-notch athletes.
"It's an atmosphere that once you experience it, you will have high expectations to succeed," he said.
And thanks to the support of many in the Central Minnesota area, Tech High School was named Best High School in the 2016 Best Of Central Minnesota Readers' Survey.
Eisenreich attributes the successes behind Tech are less about the building and more about the values Tech Tigers share.
And that value is excellence.
"It's a tradition of an excellent student body, excellent families and an exceptional staff," he said. "That's why people want to go to school here."
Notable programs such as Tech's math league team, health occupations club, speech program and the 2016 award-winning gymnastics team have continued to shape the near-century long tradition of excellence.
"We have strong programs and strong academics," Eisenreich said.
A number of Tech students have been honored with National Merit Scholarships.
In addition, Tigers are among the top high school performers in St. Cloud school district with math and English scores. Tech reported a 49 percent proficiency in math and 52 percent proficiency in English according to the 2016 U.S. News & World Report's best high school rankings. Those numbers were above both the school district and the state average for proficiency.
Last year the school reported an 85 percent graduation rate.
Coupled with strong educators and the encouragement of past alumni, Eisenreich believes Tech students have what it takes to leave a lasting impact on the Tiger community and Central Minnesota.
"(That's why) I firmly believe we are the best high school in the area."
